DeLorean Alpha5 unveiled at Pebble Beach 2022

DeLorean is back in business. But this time, the iconic brand brings forward a series of electric vehicles. The American brand unveiled their Alpha5 high-end electric GT this past weekend before it goes into production in 2024. Still featuring gullwing doors – paying tribute to the DMC-12 – the Alpha5 is a stunning GT with clean and curvy shapes. Italdesign penned the car, just like it did with the original DeLorean.

Details about the powertrain ares till scant, but the Alpha5 is said to feature a dual motor for an all-wheel drive setup. The expected electric range is 300 miles and a 0 to 60 mph time in less than 3 seconds. Inside, digitalization takes over. You have two large LCD screens, yet one of them resembles the analog design of the DMC-12. Another cool gimmick is the DeLorean Sense – a connected band. The techy band can be gifted to your loved ones and it will display their heartbeat on the console screen.

Furthermore, the Alpha5 comes with its own social network. After you import the contacts from your phone, their location will be pinned on a live map to remind you if someone lives nearby. It encourages human connections, but it remains to be seen how it works with privacy regulations.

The Alpha5 will go on sale in 2024 and there’s no pricing yet. Due to the new IRA law, DeLorean hopes to select a US-based manufacturing partner to qualify for federal EV credits.
